The following is just the beginning of many, many tips that our team has compiled to help our clients and potential clients better understand the intricacies of working with designers, writers, and other creative types that populate our halls. Okay, hall. Our hope is that some of these will make you think about how you approach a working relationship with your creative team. Or at the very least will give you a smile or a laugh. If not with us, then at us.
- Hire a professional.
Failing tip #1, check back often in this space for the next bunch of tips. - If your designer is working in Quark, find a new designer.
- Don’t ask to convert files to any of the following formats: Publisher, Word, PageMaker, PowerPoint. Really, almost any Microsoft application is right out.
- Good design takes time. A rushed design is often a bad design.
- Consolidate your revisions: it saves you money (and your designer, time). One pass of corrections costs much, much less than 10 mini rounds.
- Be specific with your changes. Also, see above.
- Designer ≠Tech Support.
- Color is not just color. We work in CMYK, RGB, or Pantone color models. Also, and this is very important, how something looks on your screen is often not how it will look on anyone else’s screen or in print.
- You might want your ad to say everything there is to be said about your product. Resist this urge at all costs!
- The bigger your logo ≠ the bigger the response to your ad.
Note: These tips are not intended for anyone who takes him/herself too seriously. These are intended to entertain and educate (emphasis on the former). At Soulo Communications, we take our jobs very seriously. We also insist that our customers enjoy the process and have fun.
